Richard Fontanez was hit by a car and suffered a traumatic brain injury, resulting in a 2 month coma. Doctors who were concerned for his quality of life, suggested to his mother that he be taken off life support.
Teresa, his mother, had other plans as she sat waiting, praying to find an answer to help her son. The Fox News segment that evening was highlighting Autism Awareness Month by reporting the Grand Opening of The Autism Treatment Center in Newtown Square, a center that also coincides with Hyperbaric Therapy USA. Teresa felt her prayers were answered and emailed Fox News that night for contact information. Intense research and planning followed as Teresa set a goal for Richard to start Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatments within one year.
St. Louis Blues player, Alex Steen, was able to return to play after receiving hyperbaric oxygen treatments as part of a medical treatment plan to help him overcome post concussive syndrome. Steen missed 39 games because of a concussion he received in December of 2011.

St. Louis Blues forward Alex Steen, is currently undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatment in California for ongoing concussion symptoms from an injury he received in December of 2011. Steen’s teammates, Andy McDonald and Paul Kariya have also received HBOT recently for their post-concussive symptoms.

An Iraq war veteran who suffered head injury during his service has finally received recognition from the military for his battle injury. Suffering post concussive symptoms, Rusty Ouart, was told by military health officials that “debilitating headaches, vertigo, short-term memory loss and constant fatigue were all just in his head.” Ouart sought independent treatment with hyperbaric oxygen therapy in New Orleans.

First lady, Michele Obama, publicly announced a new program to help the troops coming home from the wars in the Middle East. Speaking at Virginia Commonwealth University, military members and veterans were told that more medical schools are teaming up to boost training and research on brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder. Dr. Paul Harch, HBOT physician and researcher of LSU’s Health Sciences Center, was an invited speaker and shared the successes he has had in treating veterans suffering with TBI. The initiative is part of the Joining Forces campaign, an effort by the first lady and Vice President Joe Biden’s wife, Jill, to focus on issues that affect veterans and their families. It’s goal is to mobilize U.S. medical schools into a joint effort to educate its doctors and advance research, such as hbot for traumatic brain injury, in order to better treat our country’s returning military personnel.
